Academy Runners Back on Podium at NZ Cross Country

National Academy of Distance Running athletes found themselves back on the podium last Saturday at the New Zealand Cross Country Challenge in Dunedin.
The four Academy athletes, representing Tasman, finished second in the M18 6km race at the Chisolm Links Golf Course. Matt Bowen finished sixth place in 21:36, Josh Gill ninth in 22:00, Josh Fitzgerald 10th in 22:02, and Oliver McCormack 13th in 22:24.
Tasman had 38 points, 11 behind team champion, Canterbury. Otago was third with 54 points. It is the first time Tasman has won team medals in the national event since 2017. All of the Tasman runners will be back in that division next year.
Fletcher Pickworth finished 11th in the M20 race. Pickworth represented Canterbury, which won the team title.
The five medals boosts Academy Coach Greg Lautenslager’s medal tally to 299, since he started coaching in Nelson in 2002.
