Cross Country season finally makes debut after long wait

The long anticipated cross country season, delayed because of the dreaded Covid 19, finally gets underway Saturday.
The 18th Annual Coach Slammer’s Cross Country Challenge will be held at Saxton Field on a course that is being considered for the 2021 New Zealand Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships.
The 2K, for girls school year 9 and under and boys Year 8 and under, will start at 2:30pm, followed by the 4K for runners and racewalkers. The entry fee is $2 for the 2K or $5 for the 4K. All proceeds will benefit the National Academy of Distance Running. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in various grades, and there will be heaps of spot prizes.
The race was created and is directed by long-time Academy coach Greg Lautenslager (aka Coach Slammer). For more information, call 923-2321.
