Julian Matthews, who represented New Zealand in the 1,500m at the 2016 Olympic Games, will be part of discussion group at the Annual National Academy of Distance Running function on Friday, Sept. 16 at the Saxton Sports House Conference Room. The activities start at 7pm and will include nibbles and drinks in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Matthews will be joined in the discussion panel by Dominic Channon and Mandy Russ, who also ran for Academy Coach Greg Lautenslager. Channon won five national titles and broke the New Zealand M18 3,000m record, before teaming up with Matthews at Providence College in the United States. Russ was Lautenslager’s first New Zealand Track and Field Champion, winning the W20 1,500m title in 2005, and earned a full scholarship to the University of Nevada-Reno.
The function also will include a brief talk from Lautenslager and from Academy Chair Vern Mardon, who will update the audience on the progress of the Make a Difference for Greg campaign.
