Pickworth running wild in Cali

Fletcher Pickworth walked away with his head down from the finish area after his 1,500m heat at the Beach Invitational on Sunday but later smiled when the realization set in.
“I just won my first international race,” he beamed.
Pickworth, running against mostly U.S. university runners in their 20’s, came from behind on the final lap and passed the leader in the homestretch to secure the win in 3:59.88.
Pickworth may have been more elated had he not had the success he enjoyed the weekend before at the Triton Invitational in San Diego. There, Pickworth finished third in 3:57.60 with an impressive sprint over the final 150 metres that propelled him past four runners.  It was a four-second personal best and his first time under four minutes.
Pickworth will compete Sunday in the 800m at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, his final meet of the season.
